In order to become a better writer, you must read. A lot. And not just read, but read widely. Read books that are outside of your comfort zone. Read books that are widely considered to be classics, and read books that are new and popular. Read books that are easy to read, and read books that are challenging. Read books that you enjoy, and read books that you find difficult. The more you read, the more you will be exposed to different styles of writing, and the more you will learn about what makes good writing. In order to become a better writer, you must also write. A lot. The only way to become a better writer is to practice writing, and the only way to get better at writing is to write more. So write every day, even if it’s just a few hundred words. And when you’re finished writing, go back and read what you’ve written. Not just to proofread for errors, but to analyze your own writing. What works and what doesn’t? What could be improved? By constantly reading and writing, you will slowly but surely become a better writer.
