The Library of Congress system is the most widely used library classification system in the world. LC system uses a combination of letters and numbers to arrange books on shelves. The first section of the call number represents the subject of the book, the second section represents the author’s last name, and the third section represents the date of publication.

The fourth section is optional and can be used to indicate the physical format of the book, such as “Large Print” or “Audio CD.” The LC system is used in libraries of all sizes, from public libraries to university libraries.
