Book 13 of The Odyssey finds our hero, Odysseus, and his men at the island of Circe. They have been instructed by Hermes to avoid the island of the Sirens, but they are curious and decide to sail closer to take a look. Odysseus has his men tie him to the mast so that he can listen to the Sirens song without being tempted to jump overboard and drown. Unfortunately, the rest of his men are not so lucky and they are lured to their deaths by the Sirens. Odysseus is the only one who survives and he is able to continue his journey home.
