A run-on sentence is a sentence in which two or more independent clauses are not properly joined. This can happen in a number of ways, including:

  • Failing to use any punctuation between the clauses.
  • Using a comma between the clauses instead of a semicolon or full stop.
  • Using coordinating conjunction (e.g. and, but, or, yet, so) to join the clauses.
